This book is a great read for both fans of science fiction and the casual reader. It is an enjoyable story that includes alien life forms, artificial intelligence, and the fate of the planet Earth. Hannah combines classic elements of science fiction and weaves them with real world places and events here on earth. He brings historical events and technical information together creating a realistic adventure for the reader. He has clearly done his research on aviation, military tactics, space travel, and nuclear missiles, all of which figure into the plot. At 188 pages, the book is ideal for a short trip or a relaxing weekend. Best of all, Hannah brings the characters to life with his vivid descriptions of their emotions and actions. Additionally, Hannah demonstrates that a book can be well written, exciting, and remain "family friendly" with appropriate language and themes for all ages. We can only hope it will be adapted for film someday soon!Product details

This book is amazing. To Aid and Protect is an action-packed futuristic tale with a very serious message. What happens when a species puts too much faith in technology? What,at first, seems like a wise yet simplistic order, turns deadly. This book will have you holding your breath at the edge of your seat!
I bought this book at a comic book event. I really liked the story. It's a good stand alone story for the casual sci-fi reader. I would like to read other books by the author. The only thing I might have liked to see might have been one picture of the Cenceti aliens looked like.
This is an amazing story about trials, tribulations, and trust. The book is absolutly amazing, all I have to say is you should read it for yourself. I couldn't put the book down and recommend anyone who likes to read to pick it up and read it. The fighting is amazing and you feel like you are living the excitment with the characters in the book.
This was my first venture into reading a science fiction novel. I was not disappointed. It was engaging and once I concentrated long enough to read for more than 20 minutes at a time (busy schedule!) I could hardly put it down. I very much look forward to reading future works by this author!
I have barely been able to sleep, wanting to read all night!! I want to meet some of these heroes and shake their hands/paws. More, more, PLEASE!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book--finished it in one weekend because I couldn't put it down. The storyline was credible yet not predictable--there was always some element of surprise. Good mix of science fiction and actual human interactions and behaviors. I'm getting Kyle's other book, Time Assassins and look forward to reading more of his work.

Judge's Comments - What did you like best about the book? I am an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy and I feel that for the most part, R. Kyle Hannah does a commendable job with his book. On one level, the story is reminiscent of some of the works of Authur C. Clarke, whose body of work is filled with encounters between aliens and humans such as the one described here. What distinguishes his work is the militaristic element, which is, I imagine, derived from his own experience in the military . There is some solid writing here, and the pace is swift and effective.
Judge's Comments - How can the author improve his book? My only real complaint about TO AID AND PROTECT is the fact that I find the alien culture a bit more compelling than our own. To some extent, this could be seen as part of the point, but I do find that the human characters are sometimes a little wooden and predictable, while the alien culture is more nuanced and well thought out. Perhaps he feels that we don't need to see the human characters as finely drawn since we ARE the humans, but a more balanced approach to characterization would have been more satisfying for this reader.
